The Why
Nurtured Roots was created from seeing both sides of childcare, not just as a service, but as a relationship that lives within a home.
As a nanny, I experienced how much the right fit matters. Not only for the child, but for the entire family dynamic. And equally, how important it is for a caregiver to feel comfortable, respected, and aligned in the home they step into.
Childcare often begins with the practical: schedules, availability, and daily needs. But in reality, it’s far more personal than that.
For families, it’s about trust.
For caregivers, it’s about feeling at ease.
It’s a role that naturally sits close to what matters most.
Nurtured Roots was created to support both sides, bringing a more thoughtful, human, and considered approach to finding the right care.
The Vision
Rather than offering a platform where families search and coordinate everything themselves, I take a more guided approach.
I build a small, trusted network of caregivers and take the time to understand each family, and their needs, making introductions with care and intention.
For me it is important to know the people behind the profiles, understand your rhythm, and create real connections, not transactional ones.
The vision is simple:
Creating a more personal and trusted way to connect families and caregivers, where, over time, a sense of community can naturally grow.
Meet the Founder
Nurtured Roots was created by me, Fabienne, from a place of experience — working closely with families over many years, where caring for children has always been at the heart of my path.
I have worked with children for as long as I can remember, starting with babysitting from a young age while studying to become a childcare teacher, alongside internships in different childcare settings and schools in the Netherlands.
I later continued working with families in different ways; as an au pair in Spain, within day care and afterschool care with varying approaches, and as a nanny for families with very different rhythms and needs.
Through this, I developed a deep understanding of what makes a childcare arrangement truly work, not just in practice, but in how it feels. While every family approaches things differently, there is always something shared: the desire for children to feel safe, and to be safe, holistically.
This shaped my appreciation for a more conscious approach to childcare; one that is rooted in presence, respect, and emotional safety.
I began to notice how often families and caregivers were searching for the right fit, and how much of a difference it makes when values, approach, and expectations truly align. Nurtured Roots grew as a response to this, offering a more considered and human way of bringing the right people together.
My approach is guided by attentiveness, honesty, and a genuine care for both sides. The intention is not simply to place a nanny, but to support the creation of a balanced and trusting relationship within the home.
Based in Ericeira, I bring a calm and grounded presence to my work, reflecting the rhythm and values of the area in the way Nurtured Roots is shaped and shared.
The Location
Ericeira and the surrounding area, is a place where many families come and go. Some for a short stay, others to build a life here, and many who have always called it home.
Across all of these, there’s a shared need for support you can trust. Especially because many do not have the village of their family near.
Whether you are settling into a new environment or simply navigating the rhythm of everyday family life, having the right childcare in place can make a meaningful difference.
Starting Nurtured Roots here felt natural.
